The Ghana Maritime Authority has removed over 21,000 tree stumps from the Volta Lake, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.
The removal of tree stumps from inland waterways, according to Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, is one of the many tins being done under the leadership of Director-general Thomas K. Alonsi, to improve the maritime industry in Ghana.
Apart from that, the authority has also acquired some five patrol boats for surveillance along with the Tema and Takoradi ports.
Also, three trash skimmers have been acquired by the authority to ensure that Ghana’s marine source is free from pollution and improve sanitation along the coastline.
“Taking into consideration the recent surge in piracy within our sub-region, it is refreshing to see that the Ghana Maritime Authority is on top of its mandate”, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said.
