Gun-wielding men have robbed the driver of a white car at Sampa Valley near Weija in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region – the second such heist in less than a week.
The four AK-47-wielding suspects executed the heist while on two motorbikes on Friday, September 24, 2021.
A video of the robbery was captured on amateur footage which has gone viral.
The robbers, who fired warning shots into the air, fled with some yet-to-be-known amount of money.
A few days ago, a woman was robbed, in a similar fashion, of some GHC 29,000 just after she had cashed the amount from a bank at Apenkwa, Achimota, Accra.
The daylight robbery by two men on a motorbike on Monday, September 20, 2021, resulted in the shooting of the 33-year-old victim.
She is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Accra regional police command, on Friday, September 24, 2021, said it has instituted some urgent additional security measures to arrest a robbery gang attacking people in recent days.
The police have, therefore, pleaded with residents to bear with its personnel about the scaled-up security measures to deal with the threat.
The police, in a statement, is also urging the public and corporate institutions who intend to withdraw and deposit huge sums of money, to exercise caution or contact the law enforcement body for assistance as far as such transactions are concerned.
Any suspicious behaviour or movement of persons should be reported immediately to the police on the emergency numbers 18555, 191, 0302773906 or 0302787373, the regional command said in a statement.
The police said it has placed a GHC 50,000 bounty on the heads of the thugs.
