Botswana: From 2nd poorest Nation in the World to highest HDI in Sub-Saharan Africa

Botswana gained independence as the World’s 2nd poorest country and  among 5 least Developed countries in the world yet today it has the Highest Human Development Index (HDI) in Sub-Saharan Africa & 5th Highest in Africa, Among Africa’s Richest in GDP Per Capita.

Botswana gained independence with less than 4KM tarred road in Lobatse made in 1946 Queens Visit to Africa yet today is among top 10 African countries with best Quality roads.

Botswana gained independence with only three Missionary Schools, No University & only eight (8) Graduates. Botswana, among the 5th lowest Literacy rates in the world yet today has a 90% literacy rate which is the 5th highest in Africa.

Botswana provides free education up to tertiary with students getting a Monthly living allowance of P1400 (125 US Dollars). Botswana is ranked among the top 10 African countries with the best quality of education and was ranked among the top 5 Pisa (Maths & Science literacy) ranking in Africa.

Meanwhile, Botswana had Its first University built by donations of Batswana through cattle rearing in 1988.
