The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel Abdulai Jinapor has justified why the burning of excavators which are being used in galamsey operation activities remained the best option.
He explained that there are laws in the constitution that permits the President Akufo-Addo to adopt several measures to deal with situations that would undermine the right, the life and the peace of the citizens.
He stated that the decision of the government to burn the mining equipment including the excavators would not cost any Judgement debt in the future.
The Minister’s response came up when he was answering an urgent question filed by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and ranking member on Foreign Affairs committee, Hon. Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, on the legal and policy justification for the burning of excavators in the ongoing fight against illegal mining (galamsey).
