Deputy majority leader schools members of Parliament on question filing

The Hon Deputy majority leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Efutu Constituency Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin today Friday, July 16, 2021, took his time to educate some members of Parliament on how to get their questions admitted in the House.

Mr Afenyo Markin made it known to members of the House, that the business Committee has no hand or power to admit or reject questions from MPs, but it is in the powers and discretion of the Rt Hon Speaker of Parliament to do so.

He quoted sections of the Standing orders of Parliament to support his submission and urged members who are having challenges on how to get their questions admitted to engaging with their leadership of the House, especially those on the minority side for a better explanation as to the processes that need to be followed to get their questions admitted and answered by the ministers.

The deputy majority leader made these submissions when he was presenting the business statement of the House for the following week.

Some members of Parliament including MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa and Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga enquired from the deputy majority leader as to why their questions kept disappearing from the order paper, a book that contains questions ministers are expected to answer, making it impossible for ministers to answer them.
