The Officer in charge of Services at the Koforidua Prison, in the Eastern Region, Superintendent Nana Osafo Suronipa has called for more assistance in terms of food and medicines to complement the effort of the government in providing the needs of the inmates.
He made this known when the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua presented food items and toiletries to the Koforidua prisons as part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of the Diocese.
Supt. Suronipa said the items have come in handy since the feeding grant from the government is minimal. He added that the food items would immensely improve the dietary quality of food served to inmates of the prison, with a population of over five hundred and 60 persons.
The Diocesan Bishop Right Rev Felix Odei Annancy said the donation was to show love and compassion to the less privileged in society.
He urged other Christian bodies to emulate their example by, not only donating, but by visiting and encouraging them as well.
The items, worth over four thousand five hundred cedis included bags of rice, gari, beans, gallons of cooking oil, tins of tomato paste, and some toiletries.
