The Minister of Communication and Digitalisation, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, inaugurated the first-ever governing board of the Ghana Domain Name Registry (GDNR).
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful noted that having a specific country domain is not only a matter of national pride but also a critical resource for both individuals and businesses in building customer confidence and trust, and customer predictability, which are key ingredients for the success of businesses and successful transactions.
She stated that it is, therefore, long overdue for individuals and corporate bodies in Ghana to use the.GH domain and reap the benefits associated with country-specific domains, including enhanced visibility via the internet through the various search engines.
The GDNR became operational in 2017 and is currently going through a transitional phase.
The Minister said she expects to feel the presence of the governing board within the shortest possible time by addressing the most critical issues facing the GDNR.
She urged the board to devise strategic means of ensuring the availability of funds for the procurement of the much-needed infrastructure for the day-to-day running of the organisation.
