Government urged to ban importation of frozen chicken into the country

Mr Richmond Frimpong, President Ghana Agriculture and Rural Development Journalist Association( GARDJA )ha have called on the government to take advantage and ban the importation of frozen chicken into the country alongside the ban on importation of poultry products.

This according to him will compel Ghanaians to invest in the production of poultry products locally for the country to wean itself from the importation of frozen chicken and other related chicken products.

‘’Ghanaians have money to invest, but when they are going into production they feel reluctant, they want to invest in finished products’’ he stated.

He made the statement in an interview on Freedom Radio’s ‘’Yen Man’’ hosted by Kwaku Aboagye Apenteng, concerning the importation of poultry products into the country and the emergence of bird flu in the country.

He described the government’s approach of banning the portation of poultry products as the best, indicating that they were hoping that the same thing will be implicated in the importation of frozen chicken.

Mr Frempong appealed to the government to establish new laboratories in areas where there are poultry farms and retool existing laboratories with modern equipment to enable them to carry tests to determine bird flu cases on time.

He called for the need to support the poultry industry because their business was on the verge of collapse and now that the bird flu is in the system they will be affected the most.
