Green Ghana project surest way to address desertification and drought-Tropenbos Ghana
The Project Manager Tropenbos Ghana, Mr Boakye Twumasi Ankrah has described the government’s Green Ghana project as a possible solution to address issues relating to desertification and drought in the country.
‘I strongly believe that the Green Ghana project will help restore our lost vegetation, if we can protect and sustain the project, we can then prevent desertification and drought in our part of the world’, he reiterated.
Speaking on Freedom Radio’s ‘Yen Man’ show hosted by Kwaku Aboagye Apenteng as part of the celebration of the Desertification and Drought Day, which is marked on June 17 every year across the globe.
This year’s celebration was on the theme, ‘’Restoration. Land. Recovery. We build back better with healthy land”.
He called for the need to campaign vigorously against illegal lumbering in the forest, indicating more trees must be planted to help in the restoration of depleted vegetation.
He said when the depleted forest area is replenished through tree planting, then the probability of the country experiencing drought and desertification will be minimal.
