NEWSPOLITICS

I’m hopeful COP Dampare will bridge the gap between police and public –Mfantsimen MP

Ms Ophelia Mensah Hayford, Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman Constituency, has stated that one of her expectations is to see the new Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) COP George Akuffo Dampare strengthen the public and police relationship which has dwindled for some time now.

According to her, COP Dampare is rich in experience and at this time that the public police relationship trust has declined she believes that his appointment will bring some energy into the police service coupled with massive transformation.

She made this known in an interview with Kwaku Aboagye Apenteng on Freedom Radio’s ‘’ Yen Man’’ show.

‘’ My expectation is high because COP Dampare is an initiator, motivator and encourager, therefore, I  believe under his tenure he will initiate a lot of things to support the Ghana Police Service.

She said the new Acting IGP knows and understands most of the challenges confronting the personnel in the service and that we many portfolios that he has occupied in the service and the experience he has acquired will propel him to bring the transformation that the police service required

The MP who is also the vice-chairperson of the Defence and Interior Committee of parliament called on the new Acting IGP to look at the police flats and buildings across the country because most of them are deplorable states and needed either renovation or reconstruction.

Indicating that when the building facilities of the police are in good shape it will morally boost the confidence level of personnel in the service.
