Education Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh fired shots at John Dramani Mahama, former president, and NDC presidential candidate, over his remarks that he started free Senior High School (SHS).
Addressing a meeting at Tuobong in the Upper East Region, the former President said: “We began the program and the NPP came and continued it.” Unfortunately, the execution was very bad, and so we were double-tracked. I promise you, my countrymen, that I will cancel the double track in one year’s time.”
We’re going to finish all the Neighborhood Day schools we’ve been creating, 200 of them, so that all the kids will have schools to attend.
“With the Community Day Schools we are building, we are going to add dormitory blocks for girls and boys so that those who do not come from the community where the school is located will be able to get a decent place to live and learn if they choose that school and they are posted there,” he added.
But in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on the ” Kokrokoo ” of Peace FM, Hon. Opoku-Prempeh stressed that Mr. Mahama left Ghanaians with loads of problems that hampered the education industry, wondering when he began the free SHS policy.
According to him, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the then Minister of Education, now NDC Vice-Presidential candidate, woefully failed Ghanaians and that it is purely a lie for Mr. Mahama to say that he launched the free SHS.
If President Mahama says he started SHS open, his vice-presidential candidate, Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has been the worst minister of education since the advent of the country named Ghana. Today, I have a rundown of the key problems and pending issues that I have received from Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
” Listen to what she said; Excellent 2016 Social Intervention Program – Colleges of Education feeding grant, they incurred a debt, but she did not pay. She also did not pay the debt for special schools, which in Ghana are 28 in number. She did not pay for the Senior High School grant. She didn’t pay for two years of Radical Free Senior High School. All of these she wrote…” he said.
“So if there’s a Senior High School grant, what do you call free SHS to tell us that you started free SHS?’ Mahama asked.
