The Inspector-General of Police, COP Dr George Akuffo Dampare has said he together with the top brass of the Ghana Police Service are focused on working hard to change the image of the Service and making it the most respected institution in the country shortly.

Speaking at his swearing-in by President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday, October 8, 2021, the IGP said they are bent on building up a world-class police service that will be a reference point on the African continent and beyond.

“We know that if we succeed in doing that, then at the end of the day we’ll get our respect back as an institution, the trust and confidence of the people will come back to us in a force that will help us to deepen our legitimacy. It is something we’ll be proud of if we’re able to achieve.”

COP Dr Akuffo Dampare assured President Akufo-Addo he and his administration will ensure that very professional and competent police service is nurtured.

We know that as police officers and other security agencies we happen to be one of the few who become civilians twice in our life. Before joining the service, you are a civilian, and after retirement, you become a civilian. So our focus is that the Police service we are nurturing today will be the Police Service that will police us and our families when we come back into retirement. And knowing the privileges that we enjoy as officers now if we are not able to institute the police system that will police us better than current what is being done then we’ll be the losers. So whatever we do today in terms of making the police service better we do it for ourselves. Mr President, working in concert and unity with my colleagues at all levels of the organization, we can assure you that we’ll achieve it and make you proud, to make the people of Ghana proud, to make our families and make ourselves also proud.”

COP Dr Akuffo Dampare expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for reposing trust in him and further assured that he’ll not disappoint the good people of Ghana.

Dignitaries who graced the colourful ceremony included members of the Council of State and Commanders of the various security services.
