Arsenal has been left worried after star midfielder Thomas Partey got injured in their pre-season friendly match against Chelsea.
Partey was forced to leave the field five minutes before halftime due to an ankle injury.
The Ghana international picked up the knock following a collision in the penalty area, and after attempting to carry on, it became clear that his afternoon was over.
In Partey’s absence, his midfield partner Xhaka scored to cancel out Kai Havertz’s early lead, but the European champions won the match 2-1 courtesy of Tammy Abraham’s.
After the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta did not give a positive answer when asked about the midfielder.
“I just talked with the doctor. He’ll have a scan tomorrow. At the moment it’s not looking good,” Arteta said.
With start, Partey could miss Arsenal’s opening match of the season on August 13 against newly-promoted Brentford.
Partey, whose debut campaign in north London was disrupted by numerous fitness setbacks following his £45m transfer from Atletico Madrid last summer, has been impressive in pre-season and was hoping to carry the same form into the new season.
