The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has served notice of calling off its strike after agreeing on tentative terms with the government.
UTAG members after an emergency meeting with the National Labour Commission (NLC) and Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations said they are returning to work on the condition that the NLC discontinues a court case against them.
The meeting concluded with a memorandum of agreement that: “Whilst the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in conjunction with the National Labour Commission (NLC) is taking steps to discontinue all legal processes against UTAG, UTAG will also take steps to suspend the ongoing strike action.”
UTAG is demanding the implementation of a 2012 Single Spine package which put entry-level lecturers on a salary equivalent to $2,084.
