The Minister for Works and Housing, Hon Francis Asenso-Boakye has today inspected the sea defence projects currently being undertaken at Ningo-Prampram and Dansoman in the Greater Accra region

The Minister for Works and Housing, Hon Francis Asenso-Boakye has inspected the sea defence projects currently being undertaken at Ningo-Prampram and Dansoman in the Greater Accra region.
According to the Minister, the essence of the inspection of the ongoing works was to afford him the opportunity to assess the progress of works while ensuring that the projects are completed on scheduled to reinforce the Government’s commitment to protecting the nation’s coastlines against tidal waves that currently devastate lands and properties of people living along the coasts.

Looking at the devastating effects of the tidal waves, Hon Asenso -Boakye said the Ministry will soon engage the appropriate authorities especially the Ministry of Finance on the urgent need to protect our coastal communities from tidal waves to avert any future unpleasant occurrences.
“We are not only protecting the lives of the people by constructing sea defence projects, but we also protecting livelihood and even promoting economic activities”, the Minister added.
While acknowledging the capital-intensive nature of sea defence projects, the Minister assured that Government will continue to explore possible sources of funds to extend the coastal protection works to other parts of the country which are experiencing similar episodes of tidal waves.
The total stretch being protected at the Ningo-Prampram and Dansoman are 5km and 2km respectively.
The traditional authorities of Ningo- Prampram and Dansoman, expressed their gratitude to the Minister and the Ministry for the ongoing works and pledged their continuous support towards the completion of the projects for the benefit of their respective communities.
The Hon Minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister for Works and Housing Hon. Abdulai Abanga, the Member of Parliament of Ablekuma West Constituency, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and some officials from the Ministry.
